Throughout the decades-long Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the policy of deportation and forced displacement has been a central tool used by Israel to suppress resistance. However, history has repeatedly shown that such unlawful measures often have the opposite effect, empowering exiled leaders and organisations to further amplify the Palestinian cause on the global stage. Today, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are pursuing strategies that not only violate international law and UN resolutions, but also reflect these historical missteps, inadvertently ensuring that the Palestinian struggle not only continues, but grows in strength and resolve.
What both the US and Israel fail to recognise is the deep-rooted determination of the Palestinian people, who would rather die than face another forced exodus like the Nakba of 1948. This unwavering attachment to their land makes displacement not only a violation of their rights, but also an affront to their history and identity.
