Netanyahu’s Denial and Europe’s Reckoning: How Israel’s War Narrative Collides with Reality

By Elijah J. Magnier –

Benjamin Netanyahu’s appearance at the United Nations this week was as hollow as it was familiar. He took the podium with his usual mixture of defiance and self-justification, recycling talking points that have long lost their force: that Israel is fighting “terror,” that its military conduct is “defensive,” and that the world simply does not understand the threats it faces. But the speech — delivered in a near-empty hall long after most world leaders had left New York — was remarkable for reasons that go beyond the optics. It encapsulated the depth of Israel’s denial, the hubris of its leadership, and the widening gulf between the image it tries to project and the reality unfolding in Gaza, the West Bank, and beyond.

Israeli media reacted with fury, declaring that most UN member states had “spat not only in Benjamin Netanyahu’s face but in Israel’s,” warning that the country now stands more isolated than ever on the international stage.
