Palestinian resistance rejects proposal for temporary ceasefire.

The Palestinian resistance has firmly rejected an Israeli proposal for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, citing the lack of guarantees for a definitive end to hostilities. According to sources within the resistance, the proposal lacks credibility because it does not prevent the Israeli military from resuming operations after the ceasefire, following the limited release and exchange of a first group of Israeli prisoners. These sources report that Israeli officials have openly expressed their intention to resume military action and then intensify the devastation in Gaza as soon as the prisoners are released.

The resistance questioned the logic of conceding such terms, strengthening Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s position and facilitating his political agenda to remain in power. “Why should we give Netanyahu what he wants and help him stay in power by releasing the prisoners? Let him face the consequences of his failure and actions, whether he decides to occupy Rafah or not,” they argued.

Despite recommendations from international mediators, including the United States, Qatar and Egypt, that accepting a temporary ceasefire could pave the way for a permanent cessation of violence, Palestinian negotiators remained steadfast. They rejected any agreement that did not include concrete, written guarantees, mindful of Israel’s historical pattern of reneging on commitments and the potential leverage that Israeli officials could regain following a comprehensive prisoner exchange.
