Trump’s imaginary Gaza transfer plan: A Legal, Political and Humanitarian Disaster

President Donald Trump has proposed a controversial plan to transfer 2 million Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt, Jordan and other countries, with the intention of rebuilding Gaza after “emptying” it of its indigenous population. This proposal not only constitutes a serious violation of international law and human rights norms but also raises urgent questions about its feasibility and political consequences for the region. If implemented, this plan would be one of the most egregious cases of forced displacement and ethnic cleansing in modern history, drawing widespread condemnation and posing grave risks to regional and global stability.

Despite overwhelming international opposition, the United States continues to stand with Israel in support of Trump’s plan. This isolation reflects a broader shift in US foreign policy under Trump, characterised by unilateralism and a disregard for international norms. The plan’s potential to destabilise Egypt and Jordan, key US allies in the region, further underlines its recklessness.
