Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington next Tuesday, in what promises to be a pivotal moment for the future of the wars in Gaza and Lebanon. This high-stakes meeting raises urgent questions: Will Netanyahu persuade Trump to resume military action, effectively sabotaging the ceasefire deal that Trump himself brokered? Or will Trump pressure Netanyahu to maintain the ceasefire, move to the next stages of peace negotiations and end the war? The outcome of this meeting will have far-reaching implications for the future of Gaza and Lebanon, for Israel’s regional strategy, and for Trump’s credibility as an effective mediator on the global stage.
As Netanyahu prepares for his visit to Washington, reports indicate that the US has deliberately slowed the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to Gaza, including petrol, tents and prefabricated houses. The move, allegedly coordinated with Israel, appears to be an attempt to discourage Palestinians from rebuilding their lives in the devastated enclave and force them into exile in Egypt and Jordan – a scenario that echoes Trump’s controversial vision of a forced Palestinian exodus. However, this plan has been categorically rejected by Arab states, who remain united in their opposition to any forced displacement, further isolating Trump’s strategy in the region.
