Rafah’s “Humanitarian City”: A Concentration Camp Disguised as Aid Awaiting forcible Deportation

By Elijah J. Magnier

Israel is building what it calls a “Humanitarian City” in Rafah, on Gaza’s southern border with Egypt. But this is not a zone of relief—it is a mass internment facility. Framed as temporary shelter for displaced civilians, the project is, in effect, a concentration camp designed to hold 600,000 Palestinians under military watch, stripped of freedom and awaiting forced relocation.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has openly confirmed the intention behind this effort. Far from offering safety, the so-called humanitarian zone consolidates control and sets the stage for mass deportation. The area in question—Rafah—is itself already devastated. Nearly 28,000 buildings have been flattened by Israeli strikes and bulldozers. The ruins offer no shelter, no infrastructure, and no future. And yet, this is where Israel plans to force over half a million Palestinians to gather.

Dozens of schools and medical centres were intentionally spared—not as a mercy, but as logistical infrastructure for the incoming population. These facilities are intended to serve a population forcibly corralled into a confined space, before being pushed, step by step, toward the Sinai or any other country willing to play host to a second Nakba. The first occurred in 1948. Now, 77 years later, Israel, with the clear approval of the United States, is orchestrating another.

The Israeli government intends to use the Rafah site not to protect civilians, but to isolate them. Palestinians who enter the zone will be screened by Israeli intelligence using precompiled dossiers. According to Israel Hayom, anyone remaining outside the camp boundaries will automatically be labelled a Hamas operative and targeted for elimination. This is not humanitarian work—it is population control by force, with deadly consequences for noncompliance.
