From olive branches to gunfire: Netanyahu and the resistance’s relentless struggle

Written by Elijah J. Magnier

Resistance operations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iraq have decided to escalate military action against Israel while adhering to established battle lines and rules of engagement. Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza have intensified their attacks to unprecedented levels against the Israeli occupation forces. These forces had penetrated the Al-Zaytoun neighbourhood (from which they withdrew after six days), Jabaliya in the north of the Gaza Strip, and Rafah in the south. Meanwhile, the resistance in Lebanon has upgraded its missiles and drones to more destructive versions, and the resistance in Iraq has also launched drones and missiles at various locations in occupied Palestine. This significant escalation of the “Axis of the Resistance” followed Israel’s rejection of the Egyptian-American agreement, which Hamas had accepted, symbolising their willingness to hold an olive branch in one hand and a rifle in the other. This stance directly clashed with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to exert pressure through confrontation, resulting in over 120 dead and wounded among the ranks of the Israeli occupation forces within a few days.

After Netanyahu chose the path of war and entered Rafah, interpreting Hamas’ approval of the ceasefire agreement as a sign of weakness, Palestinian factions and their leadership, including the Al-Qassam Brigades, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, the Al-Quds Brigades, and the Mujahideen Brigades, convened and decided to escalate their military operations significantly. The aim was to deliver a more robust performance than in the initial days and months of the Gaza invasion.

The message was clear: the resistance had only utilised a portion of its capabilities, and its decision to accept the ceasefire agreement was not out of weakness but from a desire to alleviate the population’s suffering. They emphasised that they could not be eradicated and that the killing of civilians and the destruction of Gaza would not deter them from fighting the enemy. They still possessed sufficient capabilities to engage in more aggressive and robust combat.
