With US support, the “Netanyahu government” is bluffing: Not to end the war.

Written by – Elijah J. Magnier:

Although United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the “killing of innocent civilians” in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he “does not intend to stop the war until all the set goals are achieved.” He instructed the Israeli team negotiating with Hamas to submit a paper proposing its “readiness to negotiate a lasting peace” in Gaza to complete the exchange of prisoners and abductees. This demonstrates his insistence on continuing the war and his attempt to alleviate the internal and external pressure he faces due to the killing of several prisoners and the ongoing deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians. This occurs with continuous American support, including unwavering military aid and justifications for the massacres and recent military actions in Rafah as a “limited operation.”

Once Netanyahu announced his willingness to discuss a lasting but unacceptable permanent peace, questions were raised about the feasibility and sincerity of the proposed peace negotiations. Typically, in all wars, an agreement on a permanent ceasefire is the initial step to calm the conflict, allowing both sides to stop hostilities and create an environment conducive to meaningful dialogue to resolve issues and outstanding points gradually. By not committing to a permanent (rather than lasting) ceasefire, Netanyahu maintains strategic flexibility to resume military operations as he sees fit, thus undermining the peace process.

This allows the continuation of military pressure on the Palestinian resistance as a means of imposing future conditions from a position of strength, prioritising its security interests over the Palestinians’ demands. It leads to the rejection of the proposal because it perpetuates the cycle of violence and instability, leaving the door open to the possibility of renewed war.
