Israel’s repeated violations of international law—from collective punishment to the targeted assassination of civilians—have not only gone unpunished but are often actively supported or whitewashed by Western powers. This impunity is not accidental. It’s a result of strategic alliances, geopolitical interests, and a carefully constructed narrative that portrays Israel as a perpetual victim, no matter the scale or severity of its actions.
A Pattern of Violations
Across multiple fronts—Iran, Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon—Israel has committed acts that meet the legal definitions of war crimes and crimes against humanity. In the recent 12-day war on Iran, Israel launched strikes that targeted civilian infrastructure: a television building, a prison, seven hospitals, and dense residential areas. The result: approximately 1,070 dead, including 700 civilians, with over 5,000 wounded. Among the dead were around 20 Iranian nuclear scientists.
During the same 12-day war, Israel attempted what amounts to a decapitation strike on Iran’s sovereign leadership by dropping six bombs on a building hosting a National Security Council meeting. The targets included President Masoud Pezeshkian—who was reportedly wounded in the leg—the Speaker of Parliament, and the head of the judiciary. This brazen act of aggression violates Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, constitutes a war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute, and may qualify as a crime against humanity. Political leaders not directly participating in hostilities are considered protected civilians under international humanitarian law. Bombing them during a meeting is not warfare—it is an illegal assassination attempt and a direct assault on the foundations of state sovereignty.
