Where Are Israel and America’s Goals in Destroying Hamas?

Written by Elijah J. Magnier:

Recent polls in Israel have shown that 70 per cent of settlers support moving up the date of the elections scheduled for October 2026, reflecting their loss of confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. This lack of trust extends to the army’s and government’s ability to achieve the war’s objectives and provide security, which was the very reason for the arrival of immigrants to Palestine and their continuous influx to seize more Palestinian territories since 1918. Netanyahu’s promises of achieving “absolute victory” by invading the city of Rafah, only to return to storm all of Gaza again, have proven to be illusory as the fighting has grown more ferocious than in the past eight months.

Furthermore, Israel has opened a new front in the West Bank, aiming to paralyse its economic capabilities. This comes at a time when Israel’s financial, academic, and political losses on the international stage are reaching unprecedented levels, exposing Netanyahu’s multiple crises, especially since he remains far from defeating and destroying Hamas.

After long months of war, Israel’s military achievements – if any – have significantly diminished. This decline reached an unprecedented level, with European countries such as Ireland, Spain, and Norway recognised Palestine as a state. Additionally, 143 United Nations General Assembly countries have requested that Palestine be granted full membership rather than observer status.

Additionally, the General Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, recommended issuing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and his Minister of Defence, Yoav Gallant, due to evidence of collective punishment, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. This announcement prompted several countries allied with Israel to declare that Netanyahu and Gallant would be arrested if they set foot on the territory of the signatory countries to the Rome Statute, which recognises the authority of the ICC. Furthermore, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) also ordered an immediate halt to the war on Rafah and the allowance of aid and United Nations inspectors to enter Gaza. Although Israel does not recognise or adhere to these decisions, the rulings of the ICJ and ICC bind Western countries, divide their ranks and place them in a position where they cannot continue to support Israel, which has become almost an outcast.

All of this constitutes enormous diplomatic pressure to stop the killing of Palestinians. However, this prompted Netanyahu to evade these pressures by heavily bombing Rafah and sending the Israeli army towards the West Bank to kill dozens of Palestinians in Jenin and destroy its roads and infrastructure. Following this, the extremist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared that he would withhold clearance funds, including customs and taxes, from the Palestinian
